So here we are. A new album is in the making for you lovely people, and it will be ready, hopefully, by early 2009. It will be a rather novel departure from Awkward Ballads in terms of instrumentation, but subject matter, witty lyricism and lovely music will be staying put :D I do so hope you like it.

I actually sat down here to record another song entirely but screwed around and ended up recording this instead. -- I came up with the guitar riff about 17 seconds before I hit the record button. oh well... Always wanted to do a cover of this tune anyway --
Sorry for the slip-up on the 'so let it rain' part near the end... I had the gain set a bit too high in PT and had to delete about a half second of the song to get rid of a crap 'digital distortion' spike. - It sounds like my timing sucks. I was on time but had to trash the phrasing to get rid of the distortion. It was late and I was running out of steam... (Less)

Here's the scoop with this one:
This is footage of me recording part of the mp3 for this original. I've prerecorded the guitar accompaniment, and in the video, I'm doing the vocals and the other guitar part. You're listening to the finished product.
This track is on my myspace:
And, I'm now on Facebook.
Enjoy the song!
There are a few new leaves
On my backyard tree
And I never want to trip you up with honesty
But I guess the burden of the truth
Was greater than me
I've got my blue guitar and my coffee mug
God, I'm always singing
All these songs of love
But you, what do I know about you?
What can I say? If I feel this way
It's like trying to paint a picture
With just shades of gray
And I can't help but see in color
When I look at your face
I can talk about my wildest plans
And you'll understand cause the
Words are always resting in my open hands
But you, what can I say about you?
Now I wonder what it would be like
To have your hand in mine
I'd rather fail than to never try
There are a few good fruits
On the friendship shoot
But I never trusted people like I'm trusting you
And time can move so slowly
When you're not here
You make the doubts dry up
When my mind shuts down
And it's never been as open
As it is right now
See, I feel like I could do this
If you wanted to

PS: Lyrics? Oh, go on then.
There's a girl there on the dancefloor
And I don't know how to greet her
Not my defining feature
They said skinny jeans and cardigans
Were the only way to go
But it seems that Oxfam employees
Are not the ones who know just how it works
Give me a minute
While I fiddle with my hair
Cause you keep telling me that it looks fine
But I'm the one who cares
About a good impression being made
Cause I'm the one who might get laid
Don't tell me how the game is played
Don't tell me how the game is played
And I don't want to talk to her and take her hand
In case she tells me her favourite band is not my favourite band
How would I know which drink she'd want me to buy
When do I look her in the eye
When did the indie music scene become so over-fussed
With social inadequacy being such a must
Dont' knock me to the ground
If I'm already falling
It'll only make things worse you know
I always knew my calling was the stage
This evening's filling me with rage
I only wish I had some sage advice to give me
The indie handbook volume three would read
Show girls you fancy them
By getting with their boyfriends
Replace your party loving mates
With awkward, greasy, coy friends
Who like listening to Sonic Youth
You always must appear aloof
Remember no amount of faking
Will make your indie band groundbreaking
Don't think you're special or much less of a disgrace
Just because you've got yourself a lady who plays bass
Don't bother finding somebody to play descant recorder
Yeah that won't put you back in working order
You haven't got a different sound
You aren't part of the underground
You haven't been together long
So try to write some bloody decent songs
The girl's outside now
Talking to a taxi driver
If she were coming home with me
It'd only cost a fiver to my door
I'd talk to her but I am sure
She must've heard it all before from guys
Oh I could cry
That's probably the reason why
She's dressed just like a lesbian
I hear it's quite a craze
You can hardly move in pubs
For all the lesbians these days
But it hardly matters if she's gay
It's time to move on anyway
I'll see you guys here half past ten
Tomorrow evening, do it all again (Less)

TBC (To Be Continued) Brass Band LIVE in the New Orleans French Quarter. No idea what that distortion line is in the video - happened on Youtube's end. The uploaded video jitters and looks like crap compared to my original. Please HELP if you know how I can prevent that in the future...Anyway, this is my first attempt at any kind of real video editing so please go easy on me... I know there are a lot of cuts away from the band in this video but not all of the band footage looked good so I cut away to make it more interesting. The sound surprisingly came out pretty awesome (for an old video cam)... listen on a good system if you can - maybe with a sub? - or just on good headphones -Thing is I've had this cheap camera (the only vid cam I own) for several years now and have never used it. It's a standard definition Sony DCR-DVD92 -- and believe me -- it's nothing fancy. Before this video I think I had about 45 seconds recording time on it in three years. One evening some buds and I decided to hit the French Quarter (we live on the Mississippi Coast) and I thought I'd bring my camera along for once in my life. We had just parked and were heading to Bourbon when we walked up on these guys. It was a massive wall of sound in the middle of what I can only describe as one helluva street party.I only recorded them for the last part of one song (running through the crowd, getting every angle I could) but it looked so good when I played it back a few minutes later I decided to use the rest of that night getting a bunch of little zoom shots all around the French Quarter that I might paste together sometime in the future.I was so fired up the next day (after the hangover) I threw all this footage together in kind of a frenzy. I had to learn the editing software (Adobe Premier CS3) on the fly. I wanted to edit everything while I still felt the passion of seeing the song live. It was tough to get all the different 'fast cut' angles and the look I wanted with only a few minutes footage but I hope I conveyed at least a little of how kickass this was to witness live.I feel lucky to have seen this in person and even luckier to catch it on video. I'm inspired now to do more with my camera. If you're ever in New Orleans and want to see something that will change you, make a point of finding these guys - you won't be disappointed... Oh yeah... sorry about the language in the end of the vid. I just couldn't bring myself to cut it. It says more with two words than I could ever show of the emotion of the moment. (Less)
